It was a really neat process and definitely cool to watch!

Inspired, the art club will be doing their own screenprinting on Tuesday, November 3rd at 9pm. Student Senate has graciously given the art club a budget to work with, so the t-shirts and supplies will be free for students. To reserve your t-shirt, email sauderta@grace.edu, or go to the art club facebook group and accept the invitation to this event. It should be a really neat time.

Our next upcoming event is a Q&A night with our art department professors. Ask them anything!! (Within reason of course) I am in the process of discussing it with them, but it's planned for Tuesday, November 10th at 9pm. Save the date! We are hoping to have it at one of the professor's homes, and I'm sure it will be lots of fun.

Fall 2009 Schedule of Events

(this schedule is tentative, so check out the facebook group for updates)

Tues Sept. 9: Kickoff event! Covering a field as broad as communication itself - publication and book design, animation and motion graphics, corporate branding and rock posters, exhibitions and street art - Print covers commercial, social, and environmental design from every angle. Print explores why our world looks the way it looks, and why the way it looks matters.

They are a four-time winner of the American Society of Magazine Editors' National Magazine Award for General Excellence, most recently in 2008, Print has been honored many times by ASME, the Society of Publication Designers, AIGA, The Art Directors Club, and The Type Directors Club.

I have picked up an issue myself and have enjoyed it more than any other magazine I have looked through for media design and the sort. I highly suggest you go out to your local Barnes & Nobles or Borders and pick one up today. He emerged as the most original painter in America. He was originally taught by the famous Thomas Hart Benton, an artist famous for his regionalism, who wanted him to go a different way than abstraction. Pollock found that painting regionalism was not in his future and moved to New York where he began painting pieces that were composed of dribbles and splatters from a variety of palettes he composed himself. His work was most known for the physical involvement he incorporated such as Lavender Mist. Even after Pollock's death of 40 some years, his artwork still brings tears to viewers eyes in places such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

Want to learn more about Jackson Pollock?
