Jackson Pollock

Jackson Pollock was a brilliant abstract painter from the late 40's early 50's. He emerged as the most original painter in America. He was originally taught by the famous Thomas Hart Benton, an artist famous for his regionalism, who wanted him to go a different way than abstraction. Pollock found that painting regionalism was not in his future and moved to New York where he began painting pieces that were composed of dribbles and splatters from a variety of palettes he composed himself. His work was most known for the physical involvement he incorporated such as Lavender Mist. Even after Pollock's death of 40 some years, his artwork still brings tears to viewers eyes in places such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.
